On January 27, 2011 Eric Merkley was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. An aggressive cancer that we hope and the doctors to this point seem confident that is contained to one spot on his leg. Prognosis is good. Treatments and recovery will be long and painful.

Big Celebration

Ready to start the show

Eric is listening to the song.  One of the charge nurses said that in order to get a job on the oncology floor, you had to audition.  If you did not sing off key enough, you were not hired. :)

Dave (in the orange shirt) is quite the character.  He has been known to come into Eric's room and sing to him to wake him up.  Mitch in the green shirt is also a crack up.  When Eric's hair started growing in, he called it kiwi hair.

Ring, Ring

Everyone cheering

love this family! Alisha and Jace Spencer

Tyler, Josh and Ridge

Dr Spraker and Dana, the nurse practitioner.  Dana came and checked on Eric almost everyday.  So she has seen us at our worse.

Chis, the other nurse practitioner usually was the one to admit Eric and told him that she lived vicariously through his stories.  Last week they wanted us to come in on Tuesday  for the 2nd to the last treatment but we were planning on Wednesday  she said that she would be able to admit Eric if we came in right then, but would not be here on Wednesday,  she wanted to admit him and hear more stories.

LEAVING THE HOSPITAL

This is the cookie Aunt Janet from Bakers De Normandie made specially for Eric.  Everyone on the oncology floor got the biggest kick out of them.  Not to mention they are so yummy.  If you ever want to have great food and treats, go visit them in Holiday.

  1. Hooray for you guys! What an awesome night. Thanks for letting be apart of the bell ringing. Tim can hardly wait to ring it this afternoon! I too am excited to unpack his bag for good. Take care. Thanks again! Tim ate his cookie super fast! And he usually doesn't eat much while in the hospital:)

  2. Eric I am so happy for you! I check your blog every once and a while and I was thrilled to see you were able to ring the bell. Congratulations. Only good things ahead for you. You are an amazing guy and have such an incredible mother. But I know you know that! And don't forget, to protect your hearing! I'm sure I'll be seeing you again.
