On January 27, 2011 Eric Merkley was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. An aggressive cancer that we hope and the doctors to this point seem confident that is contained to one spot on his leg. Prognosis is good. Treatments and recovery will be long and painful.

First step

Here are the pictures of Eric taking his first steps. In the back ground you can see a little boy with a red shirt. He was the one who was a little freaked out by "the guy with no leg". The little kid is a little blurry. We had fun telling the story and joking about it.

We are coming home today!! Yeah!! Eric's nurse, Dan, that has been taken care of him for the last couple of nights, is a character, he has rings almost all fingers, bracelets and ear rings. He also has a white goatee, kind of the hippy type. Great guy, but this morning he told Eric that he was going to give him an enema for a going away present. He figured since he has already been violated, that he might as well finish it. :) Eric did not think it was funny. Dan even got a couple of cute young nurses to come in with the enema kit. I was laughing so hard, my stomach was hurting. It is called payback for all the joking he has laid on me, actually the nurses also.
